Katy ISD Honored Fallen Soldiers with Activities District-wide
Last week, all throughout Katy ISD, campuses hosted a variety of activities to celebrate Memorial Day and honor fallen soldiers in partnership with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 9182 and parents and staff who currently or formerly served in the military.
The celebrations began shortly before 8 a.m. at the Katy ISD Education Support Complex with a 21 gun salute by the Katy ISD Police Department and the national anthem sung by WoodCreek Jr. High Choir Director Christin Abbott.
Later in the morning, students and staff from Mayde Creek elementary, junior high and high school were joined by local veterans, community members and Katy ISD Superintendent Alton Frailey as they paid tribute to fallen soldiers during a special ceremony featuring the Mayde Creek junior high band, members of the Student Council and National Junior Honor Society, and the Mayde Creek high school ROTC students.
Additionally, local veterans led the pledge of allegiance at many campuses and visited history and social studies classrooms throughout the day to share their experiences serving the country. Click here to see pictures of the different Memorial Day campus activities that took place across Katy ISD.
