A Katy Junior High School student has been chosen to be featured in the Children’s Artwork Calendar for NASA. The picture, created by sixth-grader Sylvie Mei Lim, was selected over numerous other submitted artworks from across the globe.

With the beginning of 2017, the University of Houston-Victoria has earned a new ranking by Value Colleges. The Katy Campus of UH-V has been honored as one of the Top 10 Best Online Colleges in Texas. The university’s three schools, Arts & Sciences, Business Administration and Education, Health Professions & Human Development, were recognized for offering complete or partial online degree plans. UHV was also noted for being ranked number three in terms of affordable tuition.

The Katy ISD Education Foundation has been honored as a finalist for the 2017 Chick-fil-a True Inspiration Award. The nonprofit aims to provide educational grants to teachers in the Katy ISD district. The $75,000 award, which recognizes nonprofits that support and inspire youth, will be given to one of the four finalists. Community members are encouraged to vote before the October 17 deadline.

The Katy ISD mentor program KEYS, aimed at building relationships between caring adults and bright students, is looking for another group of interested community members to join the efforts. Adults and students are paired for a year-long commitment to spend an hour a week together. The KEYS Kick Off will be hosted in the Merrell Center on Thursday, September 22 from 8-9:30 a.m. You can find out more information about the mentor program and event here.

​Katy ISD will celebrate the time, effort and heart of KEYS mentors across the District while supporting KEYS Scholarships at Ties & Tiaras on March 5 from 5:30–7:30 p.m.  NOAH'S of Katy, located at 21402 Merchants Way, was selected as this year's venue.  This year's festivities include honoring the 2015 Mentors of the Year and KEYS Scholarship Sponsors, along with back-to-back entertainment provided by five Katy ISD high school show choirs and the Mayde Creek High School Cripple Creek Fiddlers.  Also joining the event will be the Taylor High School student artists who created this year
